opening6The Paradise Reward gold claim (on the Klamath River) is located just downriver from the town of Orleans. The upriver boundary is located approximately 1/8 mile north of where Highway 96 crosses Camp Creek. The downriver boundary is located approximately 1/8 mile downriver at Boise Creek, which enters the Klamath River from the opposite side (see map). There is an excellent access road from the Camp Creek bridge which leads to the head of the claim across extensive old hydraulic workings. Two more access roads are located just downriver from Camp Creek. Access can also be made at the USFS Ullathorne River Access.

There is a huge open area with lots of shady camping spots and RV parking. Many trails follow up and down the river making this claim an ATV wonderland! Being just outside of the town of Orleans, this claim is very close to most amenities you may need. There, you will find RV parks, laundry facilities, gasoline, groceries and more.

PROSPECTS: This gold claim is located in the heart of a huge historical hydraulic mining area. There are tailings and cobble piles everywhere, attesting to the values that were recovered in this area in bygone days. Virgin streambed remains in place atop bedrock along the opposite side of the river. During major storms, this should certainly drain rich new high-grade material into the river. The highbanking opportunity on this claim is phenomenal! Friends of Craig Colt were highbanking along this gold claim a few seasons ago, and reported that they were shoveling three ounces of gold per day! A lot of gravel and hard-packed streambed exists along the entire length for highbanking.

The dredging potential is very good on this gold claim, as well. There are some excellent natural riffles. The water is shallow and the character of the bedrock forms “finger riffles” which extend out into the river course forming natural gold traps. Several years ago, close friends of Ernie Pierce? were sampling on this gold claim with a five inch dredge and located rich deposits in the river channel. Those guys turned out to be illegal aliens, got deported, and have never been back!
